Since we featured some damn fine content out of Detroit yesterday, it seems highly relevant to bring you some more great shit coming out of this struggling city. Shinola is a fast-growing company that’s bringing manufacturing, jobs, and pride back to Detroit, a city that’s currently on the verge of bankruptcy and struggling to regain its footing. On top of their already-impeccable collections of bikes and leather products, Shinola has now shifted their focus to watches, bringing the same excellent craftsmanship and attention-to-detail to your favorite accessory. They’ve set up shop, a state-of-the-art watch factory inside the College for Creative Studies within the historic Argonaut building, and employ the good people of Detroit to hand-build the watches, with training and parts from Switzerland. It should also be mentioned that Shinola are using premium Horween leather for the straps, so yes, this some luxury gear. Check out the video below for a look at how it all came together, and shop Shinola’s watch collection (starting at $500) here.
