Miami-based street brand 8and9 believe in strength in numbers, and since 2008 they’ve been going from strength to strength pushing out tons of the dopest gear without ever losing sight of quality or the consumer. The name 8and9 derives from the meaning of each number: 8 is infinite, and 9 represents the perfection of ideas.
8and9 was essentially created out of thin air by founder Ray Guilbault in Miami without having any real prior knowledge or experience of how to run a clothing company. It was his relentless hustle and strong guiding principles that helped him grow 8and9 to the internationally-sold brand it is today. Ray is a total hands-on dude and maintains a presence in all aspects of his business including product design, materials and detailing, and production. The result is a brand that is constantly evolving and improving, never satisfied to sit and wait for success to come in. A quick visit to their website reveals a brand on the grind offering a comprehensive lifestyle experience including a tastefully-curated and vigorously-updated blog, plenty of media content, and of course, hundreds of pieces of 8and9 gear.
After some years of big growth and exposure, 8and9 is sold in brick-and-mortar retailers across the country while maintaining a solid presence online through retailers like Karmaloop in addition to their own massive online shop. Despite their size and reach, Ray maintains the brand stays accessible to everyone. As a special service to select clientele, they keep the ace in their back pocket with the exclusive appointment-only flagship showroom in Miami. For those looking for a more bespoke experience, The Showroom at Miami Ironside features their latest product, limited releases, one of a kind sneaker art and collector lifestyle pieces.
For Fall 2013, 8and9’s lookbook features a wide range of pieces: printed tees ranging from basic to crazy allover designs, clean-styled and seasonally relevant raglans, and of course straps and snaps to match all of it. The brand maintains they don’t follow design trends and flavors-of-the-week, and from the look of these pieces you can tell the designs are thoughtful and unique. Ray and the team at 8and9 have enjoyed some incredible growth coming from some humble beginnings. In a previous interview, Ray said that he wants to “always under promise and over deliver” by making quality focus number one and not price, profit, or hype. From the look of things I’d say they’re delivering on that promise. Stay tuned for more from us and 8and9.
