San Diego-based Cream Clothing Co. are making a name for themselves in California and beyond. At the Venue Tradeshow in Los Angeles they were picked by Ill Society Magazine as one of the top brands to watch. The team recently sent us some of their hottest gear for us to check out, so here’s the breakdown.

The Brand

The guys at Cream describe themselves as a “couple of creative minds hailing from southern california addicted to hip-hop, sushi & cartoons”. Main mastermind Jeffrey says the brand started as “topic of discussion between me and some buddies on many taco and beer extravaganzas in Mexico” and grew from there.

The brand aesthetic is playful and Cream is making a name for themselves as a fun and creative brand with designs and graphics that nod to the nostalgic. Inspired by street game mainstays like Stussy and MISHKA, as well as crossover success story Johnny Cupcakes, Jeffrey and his team craft some clean and colorful gear that is sure to get you noticed.

The Scoop

Jeffrey took some time out of his daily hustle to give us the insight into his world and everything Cream.

WHERE ARE YOU FROM AND HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR CITY’S STYLE?

We are from San Diego, the style is pretty laid back and casual, people are pretty style conscious and the streetwear scene is only growing.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE?

My style is pretty throwback, a lot of adidas and back leather jackets, a clean screen print tee and I’m out the door. I keep it simple.

WHAT DROVE YOU TO START CREAM CLOTHING CO.?

My first intent behind creating Cream Co. was simply getting my artwork out there, then followed the simple fact of being able to make a living doing what I love. Rich or poor I love what I do and wouldn’t trade it for any other life.

HOW DO YOU STAY ORIGINAL IN THE STREETWEAR GAME?

Staying original in such a competitive industry is pretty though. It’s easy to get sucked into fads and trends, the main thing to focus on is you and your team. Tune out all the hype and just do what you love.

WHAT SHOULD YOUR FOLLOWERS EXPECT THIS YEAR AND BEYOND?

In 2013 expect a full cut and sew collection release, ladies be on the lookout for our full female line under the same name. We will also be having a vinyl toy department for the new year so stay tuned.

IF YOU COULD DRESS ONE CELEBRITY WHO WOULD IT BE, AND WHY?

Jack f***in Nicholson, next question.

The Gear

Cream sent us a fine crop of some of their best pieces (er, flavors?) for us to check out so here are our favorite pieces. The Censored Logo tee captures that vintage ice cream truck swag with a twist, while the Hearse 86 tee capitalizes on the Hermes logo re-brand other streetwear companies are fuckin’ with, but stands out with subtle and clever updates to the horse and carriage graphic. We also really dug the sinister and dope Cream friend tank and the Retro-star crew has you covered for these fall nights.

The tees are medium-weight 100% cotton and are the ideal backdrop for Cream’s bright and fun graphics. The crew sweater is the type of joint you’ll never want to take off and the fleece lining is top notch. Be sure to check out their online shop for the full offering of all their gear including headwear and pieces for the ladies in your lives.

The Verdict

We’re excited to see what the great minds at Cream come up with next. If they can continue to create original graphics and pieces this brand is sure to grow by leaps and bounds. Jeffrey and the team have their sights set on opening up flagship shops around the world, starting with their home base in SD. For you Lakers fans, keep an eye out for Mr. Nicholson wearing Cream gear in the front row. Make sure to show them some love on facebook and twitter!
