During a news conference today held by the NBA’s Toronto Raptors, Drake (who was in attendance) was named as the team’s Global Ambassador. As the team prepares to re-brand themselves for the 2014-15 season next year, and the site of the 2016 All-Star game, Drake has been added to the fold to provide creative direction for the team’s new colors and branding, as well as to create a new clothing collection for the team. This surprise move further cements Drake‘s status as a fixture both in Toronto and for Toronto.

Evidently, the Raps are hoping Drake can spread some of his publicity magic and put more fans in seats. If Drake can even start to do for Toronto what Jay Z has done for the Brooklyn Nets rebrand, then the collaboration would be a huge success. I say, just bring back the original jerseys and colorways, and put T-Mac and Vince Carter on the coaching staff. Watch Drake’s speech from the press conference below.
