You have been warned.

Same goes for all of his other books. I purchased this book recently having read the rave reviews received for the series of the same name on Netflix. There is no substitute for experience, and if you want to understand the criminal mind, you must go directly to the source and learn to decipher what he tells you. I am an avid thriller reader and fascinated by most things related to crime so found this account by John Edward Douglas who is a former United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent and one of the first criminal profilers a very informative read. They’re people, much as their subjects are people, and those subjects’ victims are as well. The "monster" epithet implies that society has no responsibility in the way these k. I must say, this book is a mixed bag. Perhaps when Mindhunter’s run has ended, we’ll have some better conception of why we watch all the brutal stuff that we do. But when the FBI moved the idea from a vague 'voodoo' kind of input to an actual crime solving tool, things began to gel into a fantastic weapon against killers/rapists/etc. It’s all just a vast, dank basement of human thought and action, one that, as their eyes adjust, Ford and Tench are better able to navigate. That’s my one criticism with this book – it takes a little while before you actually get to that part. Clunky as Criminal Minds may be, it is based, at least loosely, in real criminal psychology developed by the F.B.I. Thanks for reading!

Mindhunter: Inside the FBI Elite Serial Crime Unit tells the story of John Douglas’ ascent through the ranks of the FBI, and his idea to interview real serial killers in order to learn how their minds work. As a fan of criminal behaviour studies and of the literature surrounding it (including Silence of the Lands and Criminal Minds), this was a fascinating read for me. I definitely think readers should check out the show, but if you haven't yet, then maybe pick up the book first. Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read. The best indicator of future violence is past violence. someone answer please. In the book you find only praise of the ex FBI boy :(, Mindhunter: Inside the FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit. Ok, this is pure wow. Ok so I’m obviously late to the party on this, 20 years late.

Mindhunter is careful not to become Criminal Minds; there is not a convenient new case to be solved every episode. Vanity Fair may earn a portion of sales from products that are purchased through our site as part of our Affiliate Partnerships with retailers. He also freely characterizes the killers in this book as monsters. There is also some expositional writing that is too rushed and tidy, like the scene in which “serial killer” is first suggested as an umbrella term for this newly classified forensic diagnosis. That way, you won't get disappointed when you pick this up. Back in October, I reviewed the Netflix series Mindhunter – the story of how criminal profiling began in the 1970s. If you’re a true crime nut, then chances are that what you want from this book is insight into criminal cases and details of the interviews with some of the world’s most famous serial killers. Nonetheless it was stuck on my virtual shelf for more than a year after I purchased it... And shame on me for that, for I enjoyed the book a lot. Book Review: Mindhunter. It is no secret that I am a fan of crime and thriller reads and am as fascinated as the next man as to what makes a murderer tick. John Douglas relates in an almost casual, understated style his lifelong hunt for serial killers, kidnappers and rapists. This book is for people who want a cheap thrill of a crime novel with no substance behind it. There are no neat analogs or connections, no witty little parallels.

So John Douglas is great when he’s talking about serial rape and child murder, and then he’s intensely obnoxious when he’s talking about anything else.
