I've tried everything I know of to attract an alien to my Sim's lot; searching with a telescope (I know you can't get abducted that way, but using a telescope helps attract them to your lot in the long run), collecting space rocks, etc. Using the telescope increases their chances of being abducted to 15-20%C.
